Southside School District Overview

The mission of the Southside School District, as a small, community-centered school, is to inspire lifelong learning and to empower students of all ages to become happy, contributing citizens by meeting the diverse needs of the whole person in a safe and nurturing environment.

Southside grades are from K - 7. The facility is modern and spacious with plenty of grounds for sports and recreation.

In our continued effort to achieve even higher, the staff of Southside have created teacher tools that will enable us to more effectively track our instruction and student progress toward the state academic standards. We have examined the state’s Grade Level Expectations in reading and math and are in the process of generating tracking tools. These products and procedures will then be used to examine our current curriculum and identify areas where we can strengthen our resources for students. The end result will be continued student success. If you have any questions regarding the state standards, please feel free to stop by and chat with me.

You may have noticed a few changes this year at Southside. For starters, we have been able to restructure our schedule to lower class sizes dramatically. Current class sizes average 18 for primary, 20 for intermediate, and 25 for middle school. This will have a measurable impact on instruction and student learning. One major part of this was the decision to move the fifth grade into the middle school. Both students and staff are excited with this venture. It will allow for a broad instruction base and the ability for the staff to teach thematically. This year we are also starting a fitness focus in the elementary school. Each day grades 1-4 will gather for movement/fitness exercises. Please feel free to join us any day from 1:40 pm to 1:55 pm. Finally we have moved our Spirit Assemblies to Friday afternoons. If you are interested in what has been going to here at Southside just swing by the gym any Friday at 2:10 pm.
